THE WORLD IS LIT BY LIGHTNING

SHORT

New Orleans, 1943, a happenstance meeting in a bar between a writer and a young person of undefinable gender sparks new inspiration for one of the greatest works of mid-century theater. The World is Lit By Lightning is a fictional encounter between Tennessee Williams and a young non-binary person (Kipp)  in a dark French Quarter bar on a rainy night. After some flirtations, and mixed signals, Tom invites Kipp back to his apartment. Over the course of the night, Kipp reveals how he survives in a world where a person like him always lives in danger. Tom is inspired by Kipp’s story, and ultimately uses the encounter (which never turns sexual) to continue his work on one of his (Tennessee Williams) masterpieces of American theater.
